Tauranga Airport - New Zealand
Thanks for visiting our Tauranga Airport website.

Or maybe you need a rental car after arrival into Tauranga?
We suggest

for great service and low prices.
For those of you who haven't visited Tauranga,
the remarkable thing about the Tauranga Airport
is how close it is to the city -
by car, you are within 3 minutes of downtown Tauranga,
3 minutes from the beautiful beaches of Mt Maunganui
and less than 5 minutes from Bayfair Shopping Centre.
The facilities were completely modernised in 2008
by the Tauranga City Council who run the airport.
You can generally get your luggage
within 5 minutes of your plane's arrival.
The only real problem with the airport is that
you can only fly direct to Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch
via Air New Zealand.
There's generally about 10 flight's daily
and the air prices are expensive unless you pre-book early.
Your best bet is via
grabaseat.

Politics in Tauranga is always good for entertainment.
Winston Peters was the local MP here for a long time
and Winnie and his local Mafia bodyguards were always about
doing the biz. Peters was always classy ... in his own way.
We've also got a new MP - Simon Bridges.
Young, lawyer type. Nice wife.
Should be around for life
(assuming he doesn't do a Tiger)
as Tauranga is true blue National.
Bridges has has a good first year.
Head down. Helping out locally.
Made a bone headed remark about the harbour bridge opening ceremony
but no one is really going to hold that against him for too long.
He's too good.
The local elections are due at the end of the year
and current mayor Crosby is a certain to repeat.
An interesting candidate is Rick
who has been around ever since
his very clever "Pic Rick" signs got him elected
some 5/10 years back.
Rick is against most new spending options
which makes him kinda popular in
fiscally conservative Tauranga.
Don't spend - Don't raise local taxes.
Seems about right for the current situation.
Another interesting pol is Murray Guy.
Guy's wife is a very smart District Health Rep
who is measured, restrained and effective.
Murray is effective.
Likes to race cars.
Likes a bit of argy bargy.
Likes to take on the Establishment.
Sure to win from the Greerton area.
Tauranga needs a few like Murray
(not too many).
Tauranga Council is currently considering charging library uses
for every booked checked out.
Silly twits.
It's been reported (unconfirmed) that one member of the
council has declared -
I read comics only - and I'm happy to pay for my own education.
***30 May ... A happy ending as the council backed down
on their intended library surcharge.
